Actualités 11 avril 2024 Degottex, du lyrisme à la matière

“Degottex, du lyrisme à la matière”, a monograph devoted to the artist with an unpublished text by Michel Gauthier, has just been published by Editions du Regard and the gallery Mennour and is available in all specialised bookshops.

“This monograph’s objective is to give an account of the remarkable trajectory of the work of Jean Degottex (1918-1988): in almost four decades, his painting moved from lyrical abstraction, of which he was one of the leading figures, to an analytical and processual radicalism that brought it close to the avant-garde painting that emerged at the end of the 1960s and asserted itself in the following decade”.

Michel Gauthier is a specialist in the art of the second half of the 20th century. An art historian and critic, and curator at the Musée national d’art moderne, he is the author of some twenty books and a regular contributor to Cahiers du Musée national d’art moderne.
