group exhibition 23 February - 21 May 2023 The Shape of Freedom

The traveling exhibition “The Shape of Freedom” presented at the Munchmuseet in Oslo, from February 23 to May 21, 2023, traces the history of post-war abstraction, in particular through the transatlantic dialogue between the United States and Europe and the birth of Abstract Expressionism and its European counterpart, Informal Art.

The exhibition brings together 72 works by 42 artists including Sam Francis, Helen Frankenthaler, Lee Krasner, Joan Mitchell, Barnett Newman, Jean Dubuffet, Georges Mathieu, and Mark Rothko.

In one of its sections, “Freedom as Spectacle”, visitors will be able to see the paintings L’Adret (1959) and Métasphère (II) (1965) by Jean Degottex, on loan from the Gandur Foundation for Art.

Curated by Dr. Daniel Zamani.
